Orlando Executive Airport, Herndon, Florida 1-3 November 2016

Report by Peter Davison and Peter Gregory

The National Business Aviation Association Convention operates at two sites; the static display of over 100 aircraft with ample space for visiting aircraft and The Orange County Convention Centre where the spectacular display stands showcase all the best and useful aspects of executive aviation. Over 20,000 delegates attended this year’s show.

The 2015 convention was significant in celebrating the arrival of new types. This year the industry is consolidating; improving comfort, options, connectivity and other technological improvements allowing today’s mobile business executive to work and connect ‘on the move’ like never before.

All the major players were present. The full range from Gulfstream, Cessna and Bombardier plus a range of Falcons and Embraer jets fighting for space in the static display. Dassault even played a heritage card with a WW1 Spad biplane in a centenary tent. It was good to see a production HondaJet and the new Cirrus offering at the lighter end of the market.

Prop lovers were not disappointed with Viking showing a Twin Otter and celebrating their recent licence to work with the water-bomber fleets. The turbo singles also showed up in force with the Caravan, Malibu and graceful Epic attracting customer attention.

Helicopters were under represented but those on show emphasised the improvements in customer specification allowing improved interface with the jet market. Business aviation continues to thrive even in times of austerity.
