Reds at RIAT 25

RAF Fairford 18-19th July 2025

This year the Air Tattoo followed a prolonged dry spell in the southern UK. The change to heavy humid air produced a variety of backdrops; dark clouds with blue patches, bright blue, clear visibility. Hence, for photographers, sharp auto-focus generated interesting shots. The famous Red arrows with their nine BAe Hawks flew their Friday and Saturday shows in different weather conditions. It was felt that so many Arrows shots justified a dedicated report highlighting these variations.

One of the delights of the red arrows display is the variety of approach paths and numerical combinations. From an arrival from behind the crowd line formations appear from both sides and head-on. Combine that with the five four split and then a variety of crossovers using two singles or two twin sets, sometimes making full horizontal turns to cross again. There is always another manoeuvre coming into sight holding the attention of their loyal and supportive public.
